30 May 2013 “Tour Series” pro bike racing , half hour slot at the Music and Spoken Word Bandstand, at Castle Park community event. It was friggin’ freezing standing there on that bandstand, doin’ my thing on a cold day.
25 May 2013 “Hythe Forward” community celebration  final (headlining!!!) act at the pop-up Poetry Cafe Morning, King Edward Quay, Hythe, Colchester.
5 May 2013. “Walking with the Wordsmiths” afternoon exploration, with music and poetry, led by Dorian Kelly, as part of Jane’s Walks festival.  Site specific pieces performed by Skopt and others, including my “Colchester Riots” outside Gunton’s, and “Electricity” at Holy Trinity church.
3 May 2013. “Greenstead Gambol” – a celebration of the suburbs with Fred Slattern as part of Jane’s Walk weekend, led by Walk Colchester. This history/ poetry/ celebration walk took place on a perfect evening. As intended, everyone got chatting and we overran by an hour. Poems by Belinda Colianni Federl, and myself “The Waist Land”.
23 April 2013 “Book Bang Bard Bash”. Slack Space, Victoria Place. A celebration of books and Shakespeare. I read Kate Tempest’s “My Shakespeare”, and did a couple of my own pieces.

“The Hook” open mic event at Cafe Zest. SKOPT represented by Tess Gardener, Steve Lawton and Fred. Promoted by Lakeside Theatre at University of Essex, 30 September.
“Fred Slattern’s Young Explorers’ bike ride” from Gosbecks Archaeology Park – an hour and a half of offroad cycling, with a bit of history and spoken word thrown in. Aimed at junior school age kids, and their families. 26 August.
“Colchester Free Festival” SKOPT and Fred were there, noon to 2pm. At the very popular Spoken Word stage and tent, 25 August.
“Poetry and Puddings – An evening with Fred Slattern”. A fun evening of poetry and music, and most certainly not Fred droning on all evening. A “Friends of Brundall Church” fundraiser for this Norfolk village church, 21 July.
“Slack Folk” second Saturday of the month regular event, at Slack Space, this month with guest poet – Fred Slattern, 14 July.

“Fred Slattern’s Celebration of Suburbia” A popular event that featured “Fear and Loathing in Prettygate”Part of the international “Jane’s Walk” weekend of local walking events, celebrating our own neighbourhoods. Local events run by “Walk Colchester”. Fred’s event was a history, urbanism, poetry and randomism walk. Prettygate, 4 May.

“Stanzamania” Poetry Slam No 2. Fred successfully defended his title of “also-ran” from 2010. Colchester Arts Centre, 13 October.
“National Poetry Day” Colchester’s only spoken word public event, shared with Mark Brayley. The best lunch break of the week, for those dropping in at this and Firstsite. Lewis Square, 6 October.
“Poem for Helen” read to the Mayor of Colchester, Helen Chuah, who opened Colchester Street Festival. Fred was compere and interlude poet, at the Lion Walk stage. But there was very heavy rain…….. 16 July.

message from essex” cycle/camping Scottish Highlands tour, 12-15 May 2011. Including an attempt at Cape Wrath, to become Great Britain’s most north-west poet. The weather was awful, and the Cape inaccessible, with rough seas preventing the ferry working. However, there was an excellent slot at The Old Inn at Gairloch, Friday 13 May.

FRED’S PAST GIGS. Fred Slattern, the modest man from the suburbs who has much to be modest about, is regularly approached for gigs. He’s actually been asked back at some places.
In addition to these events, he’s often been seen at “Some kind of poetry thing” Slack Space, Victoria Place off Eld Lane. Come and join the Colchester Poetry Massive, at their evening events led by “just some guy” Steve Lawton. First Wednesday of the month.
